The Shop window in Knightsbridge

I shall be adding more details... I saw a documentory last night about the battle of the somme.
I was left these images by the family that lived in my house. John on the left was killed when leaving the trench on the first day of the battle of the somme 1916, the day before his 21st birthday.
I was fascinated by thier story and their poetry. The references to god and heaven and hell. The war ended the Arts and crafts movement, which used many words to do with god and symbols from the church, medival and gothic...The end of innocence.
I have visited the battle fields in france on my buying trips and found many articles of this war that I shall add later.

We have travelled many times to this village at this time of the year. A short journey across from Calais, we drove through the night and then sleeping in the car untill daylight. The church spire was pushing through the early morning mist in the village when the sun came up. Cows grazed in wet dewy fields.I found an 18th century cross, some bric a brac, and some old ceramic light fittings that I will use on the house in Spain.
In the small cafe the windows were steamy from the cold air outside. The cafe has a urinal on the wall in the street and a outside toilet at the back. In the single room there is a removable bar a tobacco counter and a large frige that is also used by the family. The garden was full of autumn flowers with pumkins left on the garden path. The apple trees and an old caravan were covered in green algae, with the red beer crates, and the two tone paint in the out side toilet, it made a curious colour combination.
We later bought garlic, leeks, chestnuts, and gigantic cabbages from the local farmers that we will eat in the coming week.
